Starting from 1994, Leonardo S.r.l. is designing and realizing high-tech automation systems to be introduced in productive processes. The company, born as a design and engineering office, turned to a manufacturing company, capable to design and build new machinery in agreement with the customer’s expectations and the highest quality Standards.

 

Leonardo factory is in Maclodio (BS), occupying a space of 5.000 sqm.

The products Leonardo offers to the market can be divided in 3 main families:

  • Hardware and software solutions for command and control PLC and PC for the industrial automation, the process supervision and communication networks.
  • Test benches for mechanical and electromechanical components, especially leak and flow testers, dimensional control machines, functional test machines.
  • Instrumentation for test and measurement.

 

Leonardo candidates itself as an active partner in the mechanical, Automotive and hydraulic industries. There is a wide range of solutions proposed: from the simple measuring instrument to the completely automatic, turn-key facility including handling systems, process supervision and testing stations.

LEONARDO ASSIGNMENT IN THE “2 MILLIMITERS PROJECT”

Concerning the “2 Millimeters Project” Leonardo will be responsible of the realization of the electric/electronic Data Acquisition systems, provided with suitable software for DAQ, post processing, data display, data storage. Leonardo will also realize new Laboratory tools for the mechanical characterization and fatigue testing.

 

 

Leonardo will make a significant upgrade to the existing Gravity Die Casting robotized cell.

The improvement is mainly oriented to the introduction of a new system, capable to detect, control and manage the operational parameters and casting parameters, necessary to realize a guaranteed and repeatable production.

The upgrade mainly consists of a new electronic control unit with software, performing the following operations:

  • Detection and processing of the temperature of the casting point and consequent correction necessary to compensate the loss of temperature on the way from the oven to the mould.
  • Detection and processing of the environmental temperature and humidity, in order to evaluate the variability of the production, during the variation of the atmospheric conditions.
  • Detection of the process temperature with management of the heating system of the different mould areas, in order to store all data of each casting cycle.
  • Control of the phases of powder coating and fluctuation of the mould, following the manipulator pouring the metal, allowing a constant speed of metal filling in the stamp, as a guarantee of the repeatability of the same conditions and results.
  • Each parameter detected/measured will be saved and stored on the operative panel or Personal Computer, used as the man/machine interface and graphical display.

Leonardo will also design and realize the new control systems for the Low Pressure Die Casting machine and the cooling system of the moulds.

 

The control system will be handled by a software capable to command the components of the machine and relevant sub-systems. 

From a management point of view, the system will be able to detect/control and manage all the operative and casting parameters, necessary to realize a guaranteed and repeatable production. So we have:

  • Detection, processing and storage of the temperature of the casting point and the different areas of the mould.
  • Detection, processing and storage of the flow of the cooling liquid in the different channels of the mould.
  • Command of the metal injection by proportional valves.
  • Detection, processing and storage of the different pressures in the oven, during the injection phase.
  • Control of the flow of the cooling liquid in the different channels of the mould.
  • All data stored, in order to have traceability of the casting cycle.
  • Each parameter detected/measured will be saved and stored on the operative panel or Personal Computer, used as the man/machine interface and graphical display.
